Fenland Trophy Meeting attracts good entry.

The Fenland Grass Track Clubs’ (FGTC) first meeting of the season after the cancellation of the June meeting is set for the 14th September at the new venue Old Hurst Road, Woodhurst, Huntingdon, Cambs, PE28 3BQ.  This will be the third running of the annual Fenland Trophy Meeting and despite several other meetings being on the club has attracted a good size entry with over 130 youth 7 Adult riders and a 52-race programme.

The track is much larger than those used by the club in its previous meetings and the club would like to thanks Johnsons of Old Hurst for the use of the field, which it is hoped will become a regular venue for the clubs events.  With the meeting including the last round of both the Eastern Centre and South Midland Centre championships there is all to race for in all the classes.

The 250cc class, which is also the First round of the 250cc JRM Challenge series (With the 250cc JRM engine up for grabs for the winner), has a quality entry headed former British champion, and series winner in 2007, Lee Street.  Lee has been the man in form, but the new kid on the block Tom Perry has also entered and with the likes of Adam Shipp, Paul Simmons and Gary Wells also in the mix then Lee may not have it all his own way.

The Speedway Services Ltd 350cc challenge series begins at this meeting with last years winner Bob Dolman entered again but runner up in 2007 Dave Mears and Richard Smith will be aiming to take this title away from him.

The meeting also includes The Speedway services Ltd 500cc challenge series first round with the always exciting Steve ‘110%’ Daw and Tom Cooper looking to be the front runners, but with Dave Mears and Scott Campos vying for the Eastern Centre Championship they are also likely to be up the front.

The small 500cc sidecars class is headed by Scott Dunn & Natasha Bartlett, but with Roel Liemburg from Holland (having a rare 500cc outing) and Simon Beard & Mike Kearns also in the field they are not going to have it their own way.

The 1000cc Right-hand sidecar class looks to be dominated by Rod & Gareth Winterburn, Mark Cossar with first time passenger brother Tom will be hoping for a successful start to their partnership.

The large Upright class looks to have several possible winners with Peter Baker, Jeremy Best, Wes Sheasby and John Yeldham in the field.  John Underwood looks to be the favourite in the Pre75 class.

The quads provide two heats of races with several of the Quad Speedway riders entered it looks quite open with Gary Powell, Charlie Wellbourn, Steve Pantrey and Rob Heath all going well this year.

The large youth entry with over 35 riders will provide their normal frenetic action and it is especially pleasing for the club to see so many local riders in the entry.  There is also a youth quad class in the meeting.

The track will be signposted off the A141 between Huntingdon and Warboys and camping will be available from Saturday please do not turn up before.  There will be a beer tent Saturday night and refreshments all day Sunday.  The club would also ask you to please not go through the village of Wood Hurst but follow the direction signs and the route they take you on.  Practice is at 1100hrs with the first race off at 12.30hrs.  Admission prices are £8 for adults and £4 for concessions with under 14s free.

Regs are now out for the clubs second meeting the two day Norman Southgate Memorial Meeting on 18th & 19th October 2008.  Full details next week.
