Norman Southgate Memorial Meeting Presents a Weekend of Motorcycle Grass Track Racing.

The Fenland Grass Track Clubs’ (FGTC) first meeting of the season is a weekend extravaganza of Grass Track racing on the 7th & 8th June   The meeting which is being held in memory of Norman Southgate who died in 2007, a supporter of Grass Track for many years and founder member of the FGTC, is being held at College Farm, Runcton Holme, Nr Kings Lynn PE33 0RL on a 450m track.

Saturday 7th June sees a Youth and Quads meeting running on a slightly smaller track with practice at Midday and the first race at 1pm.  The large entry of 50 youth riders will be riding in the first round of the Norcam First Aid Services Youth Series.  Riders include Jake Willis, Edmund Best, Jack Dummett, Callan Phillips, Max & Jack Cornes, Jed Collins, Joshua Rockley, Natalia Willis, Craig Drury, Danny Boyle, Daniel Glover and Harry Bettridge.  The Adult Quads has a strong line up headed by Gary Powell and Steve Pantry with many of the riders coming out of Quad Speedway.

The Second day of the two day meeting is for Adults only and includes five solo and three sidecar classes.  Practice is at 11AM with the first race at 12.30PM.  Includes many reigning and former British champions.

The 250cc class, which is also the First round of the 250cc JRM Challenge series, has a quality entry headed by current British Champion Paul Cooper but former British champion, and series winner in 2007, Lee Street has been the man in form, the multi talented Rob Bradley will try to stop his quest for the 250cc JRM engine along with Scott Campos, Gary Wells and Paul Simmons.

The Speedway Services Ltd 350cc challenge series begins at this meeting with last years winner Bob Dolman entered again but runner up in 2007 Dave Mears and Vince Kinchin will be out to take the title away.  Young star Michael Faulkner and recent Wainfleet winner Craig Smith will ensure they do not have it all their own way.

The meeting also includes The Speedway services Ltd 500cc challenge series first round with again Paul Cooper, Vince Kinchin likely front runners but the exciting Thomas Cooper and young New Zealand speedway rider Alex Cunningham are likely to be in the mix.

The 500cc sidecars will be racing for the Norman Southgate Memorial Trophy presented by his family last year and now an annual trophy.  Reigning National Champions Shaun Harvey& Danny Hogg and last years winners are out with injury but will be at the meeting to present the trophy along with Normans’ Widow Doris.  The large entry is headed by the team of the year Nick & Abi  Radley who look to be the favourites but expect Scott Dunn & Adam Young and Tony Cook & Emily Coglan to be pressing them along with Barrie Bennett & Eifon Hughes and Alan Morgan & Martin Boyd.

The 1000cc Right-hand sidecar class has a strong entry with the reigning British Masters champions Colin Blackbourn & Paul Whitleam Jnr racing against former British Masters champions in Rob Bradley & Shaun Simpson, others in the Mix include Mark Warren & Stephen Henderson and Steff Blyth & Jason Gill.

These main classes are supported by a strong entry in the 1000cc Lefthand Sidecars including Will Penfold & Nigel Shaw and Billy Penfold & Richy Barnes.  The large Upright class includes Peter Baker, Stuart Chapman and Wes Sheasby and Pre75 class has Chris Mackett Chris Smith and Barry Copestake.

The track will be signposted off the A10 at South Runcton between Downham Market and Kings Lynn. There will be a beer tent on site for both Saturdayt and Sunday and the club has arranged for a large screen television for the Saturday night so that everybody can watch the European Championship football.  There will also be food available all day Saturday and Sunday.  You can camp from Friday but there is not water on site although we can arrange to get water for you if required.

Admission charges are £3 Adults, £1.50 Concessions and Unders 14s free for the Saturday when there will be 50 plus races, and for the Sunday £8 Adults, £4 Concessions and Under 14s free.  The Sunday meeting has 45 plus races.  Programmes will be £1.  There is also a weekend ticket price of £10 Adults and £5 Concessions, which will include one programme per vehicle
