With the Grass Track season starting in March the Fenland Grass Track Club (FGTC) is looking forward to a busy 2010 season.
The club is running four events this year at three different venues so it will be a busy year for all the members.
The first event for 2010 was the popular practice meeting at the Norfolk Arena, Kings Lynn on 14th March.
The club has three race meetings arranged for the 2010 season.
The first is on Sunday 25th April 2010; this meeting will be held at Greenacre Farm, (Raveley Road, Wood Walton, Cambs. PE28 5YX) the track first used in June 2009.
With the help of the farmer Victor Edwards the club has carried out some improvements to the track to hopefully make it even better than last year. This will be the annual Fenland Trophy meeting and will cater for all youth and adult classes solo and sidecar. Entries are coming in well for the meeting and we are hoping to have a bumper entry, for a set of regs please click here or call Juliet on 07722232437.
Practice will be at 11.00 with the first race at 12.30.
The meeting will include the first round of the JRM 250cc Challenge Series, with a brand new 250cc JRM engine to the winner of the series, which be held over all three of our 2010 meetings. The club would like to thank Alan & Jamie Bellham of Speedway Service Ltd, (5 Marshland Street, Terrington St. Clement, Kings Lynn Norfolk. PE34 4NE. (Tel 01553 829197)) for their help in getting this sponsorship for the fourth year and we look forward to seeing the country’s top 250cc riders going for the superb prize. Alan & Jamie through Speedway Service Ltd are also sponsoring the 500cc and 350cc solos classes through the year in the Speedway Services Ltd 500cc and 350cc solo Challenge Series.
First prizes over the series will be £300 & £250 respectively. There are also the Fenland Club Championships run over the three meetings and our youth series open to all youth riders which this year will be supported by Speedway Service Ltd.
The second meeting will be a two day meeting on the 26th & 27th June 2010, in an exciting new venture for the club will be running at brand new venue in Castle Acre/ West Lexham, Norfolk. After much hard work by former rider and 1000cc sidecar frame builder Ivan Ducker the field has been laid to Grass by the farmer especially for meetings to be run.
The weekend of racing will be called the Pride of the East Grass Track weekend, and will include a joint meeting with the Vintage club on the Saturday which will have the youth classes as well. This will be a round of the VMCC championship.
The Sunday will see the full Pride of the East meeting with a full days racing in all adult solo and sidecar classes. With some good local sponsorship it is hope to attract a good quality entry.
The farmer is looking for this to be a regular event with the field for possibly one or two smaller meetings each year as well. Of course this will be the second round for the JRM 250cc Challenge Series, and the Speedway Services Ltd 500cc & 350cc solo Challenge Series.
The third and final round in all the series and the final meeting of 2010 for the club will be over the weekend of 18th & 19th September 2010.
The meeting which will be the Norman Southgate Memorial meeting will be back at the Wood Walton venue used in April.
The Saturday will be a Youth and Quad meeting with the full Adult meeting on the Sunday.
The Sunday meeting will incorporate the annual Norman Southgate Memorial trophy for the 500cc sidecars and also a new annual event for the Pre75 class, “the Bill Barley Pre 75 Memorial Trophy”.
Running three race meetings in 2010 will mean a busy year for all club members and any extra help is always gratefully received.
